Love at First Sight
Master the first 50 pages of your romance novel to get more sales, more reviews, and more fans
Struggling to find success as an indie romance writer?
(where success = people reading your book, loving it, shouting about it from the rooftops, and becoming lifelong fans—and oh yeah, getting the sales that come along with that?)
Create the romance writing career you've always dreamed of
You know you can tell a great story, you’ve got a gorgeous cover, you wrote and rewrote that back cover blurb a million times. If you’re seeing people buy or KU borrow your book, but not seeing the reviews and page reads, something’s not right.
We need to start right at the beginning—are you grabbing your reader’s attention from the jump?
Lackluster opening pages can kill a reader’s buzz. If you’re not capturing their imagination from the start, they’re going to lose interest.
So you need to get your reader in a chokehold from the first page and keep them there by capturing their attention in the first 50 pages of your book.
Hint: it's all about the first impression.
You only get one chance to get your reader to sit up and take notice—so you've gotta hook ’em from the start so you can keep them there for the entire book.
If the reader is bored in the opening pages, they’re not going to stick around, especially in this oversaturated romance market where there are more books they can ever read in a lifetime. In a TikTokified world where we scroll away from something that doesn’t hold our attention after two seconds, you’ve gotta keep the reader on the edge of their seat and turning pages before they scroll right out of your book.
Make more $ from all your books by making them hooky as hell and getting readers locked in immediately so they read through your whole series and your backlist. As much as you’re in this to tell stories, you’re also in the business of selling books (or else you’d just be writing for yourself)—so let’s make you some real cash money from these books!

Hi, I'm Sarah!
I’m an editor and book coach at Lopt & Cropt Editing. I work exclusively with romance authors to help them achieve their publishing happily-ever-afters.
I always ask potential editing clients to do a sample edit of 15 pages before we agree to work together, so I have analyzed many, many opening pages over the years as an editor—and as a voracious romance reader, I’ve read even more.
As a developmental editor, I love digging into how to make a book even better—and it all starts with the opening pages.
The results you can expect after you finish this course:
Nail the first 50 pages and understand why you need to
Create an unforgettable reading experience that turns readers into FANS who squee about your work to everyone
Write a killer opening page that captivates the reader from the jump
Develop characters that the reader has an emotional connection to so that they NEED to find out what happens to all your characters, in this book and in later books in the series—and you get better series readthrough (and more sales!)
Learn how to keep readers on the hook with plot and pacing techniques for any romance subgenre
Build a compelling world that readers want to live in
Discover the most common errors that romance writers make in the first fifty pages and use the checklist to make sure you’re not making any of them
Apply the principles learned here into other areas of your work (e.g. creating hooks that you can use elsewhere in your story AND in your marketing to get readers to buy it!)

"This touches on unique topics writers need to know but it’s hard to find out until you’ve been told that you do these things. This is a great resource for writers at any level but especially those starting their journey."

"All hail the holy grail of information, not just for the first fifty pages but for the entire story."

FAQs
How long will the course take me to complete?
It’s completely self-directed, so you can speedrun the course in a day, or you can take it at your leisure. The videos in the course add up to about an hour, plus there are challenges and worksheets to complete, so you should include some time for those as well.
Can I work with you 1:1?
I have an intro extra (only while supplies last!) that you can grab for $50 where I’ll meet with you to discuss your opening pages and my thoughts on them. If there are calls still available, you'll be able to add one on after you buy the course.
If you’d like me to edit your whole book or coach you as you’re writing, get in touch here!
Will you tell me how to write my book?
As an editor, I believe that it is up to the writer to figure out their own writing process and what works for their brain. There’s no point in me telling you to write a certain way if you don’t work like that. So I will not tell you exactly how to write your book, but in this course I will give you, based on my experience, lots of strategies to make writing easier for you.
I haven’t started writing yet—is this the right time to take this course?
Yes, it’s the perfect time! We'll begin from the beginning so that you can really nail these first 50 pages!
I’ve already written most/all of the book—
is it too late to take this course?
Nope! Those opening pages are crucial, so you want to really edit them carefully and make sure they have maximum impact. This course will teach you how to do that. And plus, you’ll be able to apply what you learn in this course to future books that you write.
Do I have to sign up for anything for this course?
Only for Thrivecart to access the course. The worksheets are available in Google Docs or as direct PDF downloads.
Do you offer refunds?
No, sorry. Because it's a self-directed course, it's up to you to apply the strategies to your work, which is outside of my control. I do want you to be happy with the course, though, so feel free to reach out if you have questions, and I'm sure I'll be able to alleviate any concerns!
JSYK: no AI was used in the making of this course
I am very opposed to generative AI in the creative process and in the publishing industry in general. This entire course was created from my own experience as a romance editor and coach and was written by me without the use of generative AI. There are no AI prompts or things for you to plug into ChatGPT in this course (I haaaaate that)—you are a creative, and I respect your ability to come up with ideas from your own big beautiful brain.
